In order to better meet the educational, professional, and
personal needs of its users the West Deptford Free Public Library has available
a number of computers that can access the Internet, CD-ROM databases, and
business software. These workstations are free but must be used according to the
rules and regulations that follow.
Privacy
and Security
Computer programs are protected by copyright laws and
may not be copied for personal use.
Computer users are asked to protect the privacy of
others and the security of the system by
a. Not representing oneself as another user
b. Trying to gain access to someone else's data or search history
c. "Hovering" over others while waiting for a computer
d. Not attempting to modify or gain access to files or passwords
e. Not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system
f. Damaging or altering software components of any network or
database
Liability
The library
is not responsible for any damage done to a computer user's disks, data,
hardware, or software by any virus that may have been contracted on or through
library equipment.
Although the
library has installed virus protection on its computers, it is always possible
for a new virus to appear, and therefore, protection cannot be guaranteed.
The library
is not responsible for any damage done to a computer user's disks, data,
hardware, or software as a result of the malfunctioning of library hardware or
software.
The computer
user is liable for damage to equipment caused by inappropriate or unauthorized
use.
Training
The library
staff will provide instruction on the use of reference and educational
databases.
The library
staff will provide group and individual training on the use of the Internet.
The library
staff will provide information about Internet training opportunities, Internet
books and manuals.
The library
staff will offer basic explanations on personal computer applications such as
word processing or spreadsheets.
The library
staff will provide manuals on the use of software programs installed on the
computers.
